Hobby

Hobby is what a person likes to do in his spare time. Hobbies differ like tastes. If you have chosen a hobby according to your character and taste you are lucky because your life becomes more interesting. The most popular hobby is doing things. It includes a wide variety of activities from gardening to traveling, from chess to volleyball. Both grown-ups and children are fond of playing different computer games. This hobby is becoming more and more popular. Making things include drawing, painting, handicrafts. Many people collect something - coins, stamps, compact discs, toys, books. Some collections have some value. Rich people often collect paintings, rare things and other art objects. Often such private collections are given to museums, libraries.
As for me, I like to listen to music. 3 months ago my parents bought me a compact disc player and I decided to collect compact discs. I like different music, it should be good. I collect discs of my favourite groups and singers. I carefully study the information printed on discbooklets. I try to find everything about my favourite singers. Also I like to watch music programmes on TV. I want to keep up with the news in the world of music.
Of course, I like to spend my spare time with my friends. We talk about all sorts of things ( politics, teachers, girls). We discuss films, books, TV programmes. In fine weather we like to be in the open air. We find a nice place somewhere in the forest. We make a fire, bake potatoes and have a lot of fun. When the weather is bad, my friends come to my place. We have a good time together.

Swimming

Swimming is both individual and team sport. The goal of competitive swimming is to beat the competitors in any given event. Swimming is an event at the Summer Olympic Games, where male and female athletes compete in 16 of the recognized events each. Olympic events are held in a 50-meter pool, called a long course pool.

In open water swimming, where the events are swum in a body of open water (lake or sea), there are also 5 km, 10 km and 25 km events for men and women. However, only the 10 km event is included in the Olympic schedule, again for both men and women. Open-water competitions are typically separate to other swimming competitions with the exception of the World Championships and the Olympics.

In competitive swimming, four major styles have been established. These have been relatively stable over the last 30–40 years with minor improvements. The four main strokes in swimming are:
  • Freestyle (free): This is the most popular stroke and the easiest for beginners to learn. It is a simple flutter kick and windmill arm motion, like the backstroke, only on your belly. The most difficult part is coordinating the breathing since your face is in the water most of the time.
  • Breaststroke (breast): The breaststroke involves exquisite timing, and in fact, you can be disqualified from competition if you miss even one stroke. The stroke involves form that causes your body to bob up and down as you glide forward through the water. This is a difficult stroke and not one to choose if you're just learning how to swim. The basics are that your arms pull, you breathe, you kick (arms alternate with the kick), and you glide.
  • Backstroke (back): The backstroke is easier than the butterfly or breaststroke and similar to the crawl in that you use an alternate windmill arm stroke and flutter kick. Two keys to a proper backstroke are that your arms move with equal strength, otherwise you will swim off to one side, and that your body rolls from side to side so that your arms catch enough water to propel you forward.

  • Butterfly (fly): Like the breaststroke, this is a difficult stroke and not recommended for beginners because it requires perfect timing and a good deal of strength. During the stroke, the legs move together in a dolphin kick (imagine a mermaid), the arms move together to push the water downward and backward, and the torso undulates like an earthworm as the body moves forward through the water.

Gardening

Gardening is the best hobby in old age for your health and fitness, pleasure and financial gain. With aroma therapy and spas becoming an upcoming trend, cultivation of aromatic and medicinal plants has also gained in importance. Government bodies, Agricultural Departments of Indian states encourage and provides also financial assistance to the people willing to cultivate medicinal plants. The Fragrance and Flavor Development Centre (FFDC)-a ministry of MSME body is supplying various aromatic and medicinal herbs in  India. There are plenty of inspiring gardens worth visiting, filled with great ideas for their own landscapes.

Gardening is an adventure with new challenges and experiments. Some basic information
 1. Select good Soil

The foundation of your garden is your soil.  Loose, fertile, well-drained soil will make your gardening experience a good one. By a basic soil test you can improve the nutrient levels of your soil. It is better to  add two to four inch layer of organic matter to your garden in the spring or fall and dig it in six to eight inches deep.
  2. Choose the best location

Choosing the best location for your garden for the growth of plants. Most vegetables and flowers need at least six to eight hours of full  sunlight for best growth. The  garden plants should  far away as possible from trees and shrubs. Source of water should be near the garden.

 3. Water to plants
Flower plants and Vegetables need at least one inch of water per week Watering only at the base of the plant and avoid wetting the foliage. Wetting the foliage during each watering is just inviting disease.
  4. Cultivate good  varieties plants
Cultivate only good and disease resistant varieties plants  to control disease .Look for guidance on the back of the seed packet where valuable numbers and dates will provide plant facts, growing patterns and most of all the suggested time for planting. Verticillium and Fusarium Wilt are two major diseases that attack tomatoes. Proper spacing of plants will allow good air circulation around plants allowing them to dry quickly after watering or rain. Keeping plants fertilized and growing vigorously plants will help them to withstand disease problems.
 5. Insect Control

Avoid using insecticides in the garden as some  insecticides will kill bees. Bees are needed for pollination in order for fruit production to occur. Identify the insect before you use insecticides.

Photography

Do you think hobbies such as photography should be taught at school?

Photography refers to the science, art, and practice of making pictures by recording images into radiation sensitive electronic image sensors. It has been one of the most celebrated forms of art. There are a lot of reasons why such art is a must learn to most students in the country. Photography teaches people to appreciate the environment and nature. Through photography, students can be able to realize the beauty of even the simplest thing around such as a simple lead hanging in a still branch of an old tree or a butterfly enjoying its newly harvested nectar in a flower resting on a fertile land.
It also helps students to be aware on what is happening in their environment. Through photography, one can see what is happening in the society such as what issues need immediate actions and what problems are remained unseen. Photography also keeps students from thinking in a boxed manner. This form of art lets students experience what is outside their classrooms. They will be able to see how some sort of system works or what is the importance of it to them and the people around them.
They will be able to experience things that they would not be able to acquire and learn in a typical classroom setting.
Photography also allows students to be more creative as they want. They will learn to find views and angles that would make something look as pleasing as possible. They would learn that there is really nothing ugly that can be found in nature but only eyes that cannot see what things are really aesthetically pleasing.
They will be able to learn how to transform a scratch from something one would really treasure. Photography can also open doors to students. Learning about this form of art can give them a lot of opportunities in the future. Unlike many popular career paths, the need for a photographer is one that will surely be always around. There will always be events that need to.
